Complaint Leads To Rape Charge For Maryland Man Involving Minor, Sheriff Says

A 40-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly sexually abusing a minor in St. Mary's County, authorities announced.

Members of the St. Mary's County Sherif's Office arrested Leonardtown resident Crosby Jay Dawson over the weekend, following an investigation into a reported rape involving a juvenile, according to officials. 

His arrest came following an ongoing investigation that was launched by Child Protective Services and medical professionals following reports of an anonymous complaint involving Dawson and his underage victim.

Dawson was taken into custody without incident and charged with: 

  • Rape;
  • Third-degree sex offense;
  • Fourth-degree sex offense;
  • Sex abuse of a minor.

He is being held without bond at the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown.
